Samsung shows 1cm-thick 40in LCD TV

The 40in display bezel is 1.5cm, compared with 3cm typical of current similar sized LCD TVs, claimed Samsung.

Samsung say that the LED backlit screen, reaches 92% of the
colour saturation specified in the US standard-definition TV standard, NTSC.

Light Blue Touch Paper?

Interesting to note that Light Blue Optics (LBO) of Cambridge UK, the industry-leading developer of holographic laser projection technology, have secured a US$26 million Series ‘A’ funding round, led by Earlybird Venture Capital and Capital-E.. Existing investors 3i plc, who led LBO’s US$3.5 million seed-funding round, and NESTA also participated.

Light Blue Optics’ CEO, Dr Chris Harris said, “The closure of this US$26 million funding round will allow us to accelerate our product development and commercialisation programme towards the high-volume manufacture of miniature projection systems. “

OLEDs a Little Closer to Home

Sony announced today that they will launch their first OLED TV set on December 1st this year.

Not worth rushing out for just yet, perhaps, the screen is only 11″ and the cost is – well at an ‘early adopter’ level, but the prospect of OLEDs is getting closer and at 3mm depth, this is going to provide attractive TVs in the near future.
